Coleman MicroPacker Compact Battery Lantern is reliable light for camping, walks, or emergencies. We use good quality
NiMH "pre-charge" rechargeables, but any high quality NiMH or LiIon
batteries will last longer than you need them to. We're talking weeks of
intermittent use, and many many days of 24/7 use. (I was going to do a
timed test but got bored... this thing lasts that long.)
It's a great light for reading in a tent or playing games at a table.
It's a good light for seeing the path near you or taking your pet out,
for seeing in an unlit campground shower or providing a small beacon for
the kids to find their way to you. And it is not one of those
super-bright lights that bothers people in the campsites next door.

I picked up two of these Energizer Weather Ready Folding Area Lantern for power outage times, and for an indoor light, they perform as I expected. Of the various products I had purchased after Sandy to provide emergency light, this lantern was the best.
It works great to illuminate a dark room or hallway, such as when a blackout strikes. It works much better than a flashlight in this regard, and is of course, safe unlike unsupervised candles. And best of all, the LED lights are bright and last for days using 4 'D' sized batteries.
