This Coleman MicroPacker Lantern is compact and the triangle shape fits neatly and comfortably into your hand. The batteries at the bottom provide a enough weight at the base to keep the lantern steady. A big plus with me is the fact that it requires "regular" batteries as opposed to a stack of tiny clock batteries, something that is becoming common these days.

It easily illuminated my 10 X 12 study well enough to distinguish objects around the room, and I had no problem reading by it. I avoid camping products that utilize battery types that aren't readily available at say, any gas station mini-mart that I'm likely to come across while on the road. I would recommend staying away from the "exponent" line of Coleman LED lanterns. They're designed poorly as far as light distribution and LED placement.
